OUT AND ABOUT

Fashion Statement does like sharing the discovery of new brands. This week we present Vanessa Knox for your shopping pleasure. Vanessa was a co-founder of lovely maternity-and-beyond label Isabella Oliver, and FS is very taken with the new line. It sits between high end and high street and is for the sophisticated grown-up dresser (hello! That's FS that is!) Lovely simple but luxurious silks and jerseys - the sort of pieces that become your wardrobe staples.

From new finds to niche favourites - FS received the Sara Berman lookbook recently and did rather a lot of drooling. Not chic, but true. The latest collection has some gorgeous summer dresses and bags - also leather jackets and maxi dresses galore, but it's the former that have made it to the top of the FS fantasy shopping list.

5ft 8in or taller and fed up with struggling to find the right length trousers? FS's heart bleeds for your poor long long legs. And has the answer for you - Lanky Bird. Designed and manufactured in the UK, but shipping worldwide, the label caters for those who find it hard to clothe their elegant long limbs. Bah to you. However we approve of the fact that they cater for those, like FS, who are rather long of foot too (up to a size 10).

New York fashion week

Here are the things I loved about New York fashion on Valentine's Day:

1. The fact that the sun was shining (there was also a freak hurricane-ish wind that almost swept me and my flares off my feet as I was leaving Donna Karan's West Side show, but I'm going to focus on the sunnier positives here). Anyway, the sunshine made me think that there would soon be no excuse for fashion audiences to be clad in fur. Peta issues aside, I'm just plain bored of it now.

2. The fact that the brilliant Theory line by Olivier Theyskens is sort of affordable - well, in terms of designer fashion at least.

3. The fact that jeans are genuinely acceptable on the front row again - so long as they are flared. I do love a lazy fashion trend.

4. The fact that J Crew is selling fluorescent long-sleeved T-shirts. Excellent for this season's layering, and currently proliferating among show-goers.

5. Extra-special love for the Marc Jacobs cheap fetish shop set, with its padded shiny pillars and its mirrored floor. Plus the fact that Marc wore a blue rubber shirt under his grey jumper. Plus the fact that the show was two minutes early. Maybe when he's done with fashion he can come and be Minister for Transport or something.

6. And finally ... I loved the descriptions of MJ's boots in the show notes. "Car-paint metallic bootie", "nylon galosh", "snuff suede galosh", "two tone sex brogue". That's some PHD-level usage of the fashion singular right there. Respect.

This is about you.

Forget the drugs, forget the alcohol, forget being so high that you spend half the year in the courts trying to explain why you steal jewellery and just can’t bring yourself to pull your shit together!

Here’s the thing. My girl Lindsay is broke OK. She hasn’t worked since 2008 and all her savings seem to be disappearing up her nose in the form of white powder.

I mean this crazy judge expects her to go to counselling when she can’t afford it! She’s Lindsay Lohan for Christ sake. It’s not like she can go to common people’s off key AA type sessions where she’ll be hounded by paparazzi and an array of fans. No No, that won’t do. She needs to get a $1000 an hour counsellor to bring out her demons but what the judge needs to understand is that LiLo is having a little cash flow problem.

What else is a girl to do when she has to choose between a pair of glorious Christian Louboutin Madame butterfly’s or spend an hour listening to some nerd psycho babble on about turning your life around? Have you seen the Madame butterfly’s? .Who needs to be sane when you have these shoes by your side? Damn I would plead insanity and poverty if someone could hook me up with these babies !

People need to give LiLo a break. She is a shoeaholic like me and us shoe freaks need to stick together damn it! Quite frankly I think all should be forgiven if you can come to court wearing a pair of 6 inch heels! This is a skill that the judge has clearly not appreciated! Lindsay…. some people may think that this was one of the stupidest PR boo ha’s you have pulled but not me girl, I’m with you

To this…Voilaaaa

If haven’t heard yet 50 Cent is now creating a line of men’s facial products which will include moisturisers, night creams, and health supplements. It’s for “the guy who likes to be pampered — but the supplements will make it more butch.”

How exciting, I hear you say….

Well for a couple of years now I’ve noticed an increase on the number of products available so Fiddy must be onto a winner and has realised this growth in trend and is about to cash in on some serious dollars!!! Chin Ching…..

Some of you may think if not an actor or performer, men who wear make up are either gay or dress up in women’s clothes but in actual fact all men do. Such as Silvio Berlusconi the Italian Prime Minister who was once described as the countries very own Hugh Hefner, is known to wear his fair share of ladies’ beauty products, such as foundation and white eyeliner which is his trademark. And we all know he has a special weakness of the opposite sex.

Apparently according to one of the guys off Jersey Shore, when he met Berlusconi he was shocked. “He is tiny, no more than five feet four inches tall. He wears white eyeliner on his lower lids to make his eyes pop in photographs, and he uses heavy foundation on his face, which renders him the same orangey-brown color as the cast of “Jersey Shore.” His hair is thinning–”because I had too many girlfriends,” he once said, before he got implants — and dyed a vivid burnt sienna. Despite these efforts, he is not a young seventy-four; Berlusconi, in the words of his best friend, is a bit dilapidated.

I’m sure Berlusconi will be delieghted to hear the news of Fiddy’s new venture and perhaps be one of the first to try or even maybe become the face of the 50 Cent range.

Japan Fashion Week: 2008

We love the wild, wicked, wonderful and completely unique fashions found on the streets of Tokyo, Japan! Many of our designers create items that are inspired by the Harajuku, Ganguro, Lolita, and Punk styles found in Japan street fashion, so we decided to dedicate a Japan style shop specifically to showcase clothing and accessories designed by fans of this creative movement.

These wonderful clothes and accessories inspired by Japanese fashion can be worn head to toe for an completely unique stand out look, or sprinkle them into your wardrobe to add a little Harajuku style color and personality to any outfit. Plus, we are now carrying Japan style home decor and gifts as well, so you can spread the cuteness everywhere you go ;) < Photo by Shoichi Aoki for Japan's Fruits Magazine.
