COURTNEY LOVE’S RUSSIAN STYLE SOULMATES

I’ve had bigger [shows], I’ve had smaller, but per capita, you’re the best looking [audience],” Courtney Love told the crowd at Moscow’s Afisha Picnic festival last weekend—and she wasn’t kidding: The Russian capital’s most stylish were out in full force, enjoying sets by everyone from Hole (the band’s first ever in the country) to Marina and the Diamonds to Tennis.

While there was plenty of typical festival-wear on display (cut-off jeans, gladiator sandals, airy dresses), neons—particularly bright orange—and long skirts were among the standouts of the day. The key to rocking a ground-skimming bottom while lounging in the sun seemed to be in the choice of fabric; Muscovites went for lightweight cottons and, in several instances, entirely sheer bottoms with thin slips underneath to keep things PG-rated. That the crowd was overwhelmingly made up of beautiful, well-dressed people came as no surprise, considering that the festival was organized by Afisha, a local lifestyle and fashion magazine, included a Topshop-curated stage (among the Brit chain’s picks were the Wombats and Tamaryn), and featured a market with a Gap 1969 pop-up shop alongside booths with pieces by local designers.
