2008 / 2009 Cars

2008 / 2009 Cars

Here's a guide to some of the new cars we're looking forward to seeing in 2008.

Details of these new cars for 2008 are thin on the ground, but if you have any information on any of them, then please do contact us at newcars@pictures-of-cars.com and help us to share that information with our visitors. We'd particularly appreicate early pics of any of the new vehicles for 2007, 2008 and beyond, but any information including rumours and speculation is of interest.

Chevrolet

A new Focus rival in the shape of the Ultra will appear in late 2007 and hit the streets in time for 2008. Early indications are that Chevrolet will be aimed at younger drivers and will feature aggressive styling to attract those buyers. We don't think it's going to be to everyone's taste, but aiming for this niche market could be a good move on Chevrolet's part.

More interestingly the company will be showing their new Camaro in preparation for a 2009 release.

Citroen

A petrol variant of Citroen's C-Crosser is expected, providing the car is as successful as the company hope.

Ford

2008 Ford Fiesta

Toyota

Supra

Toyota we hear may well be releasing a new Supra one day. Rumours have been rife ever since the old model went out of production, but for the last few years it has seemed like it would never happen. For starters the thirsty Supra would never again fit in Toyota's new 'minimize and zeroize' philosophy, and secondly sources were saying that any new Toyota Supercar would wear the Lexus badge.

However, the latest word seems to be that there will now be a new Toyota Supra and an equivalent Lexus, and that the former might be available from 2008. So why the apparent change of hear? Well, it's all thanks to Toyota hybrid technology which we first saw in the Toyota Prius, and then more recently available across most of the Lexus range. Apparently, the new Supra could feature the engine from the Lexus GS450h giving it Supercar power without it being quite so thirsty as the last model.

Frankly, we've heard the Supra rumour mill start and stop so many times we won't fully believe it until we see it, but if true the news is great. Finally petrolheads who wouldn't have looked twice at a hybrid car might just start to take an interest. If true, this will also be a departure for the Supra, as the 450 engine is a V6 whereas all previous Supras have featured inline 6 engines.

Strangely, sources say that the Lexus version, hopefully out in 2009, won't feature a hybrid power plant; instead it will have a V10 engine of perhaps 5 litres or thereabouts with over 100bhp per litre!

Vauxhall

Ford updated the Mondeo, and in 2008 it's the Vauxhall Vectra's turn for a fresh new face. Although it doesn't seem long since the last new Vectra was launched, Vauxhall can't afford to wait too long before hitting back at their arch rival. The Astra which will have received a facelift in 2006 will be significantly changed in 2009.

Volvo

V70

New version of the ever popular V70 estate to be launched in late 2006 or early 2007.

S60 - 2007 or 2008?

Volvo say the new S60 is 'sportier in every respect' which we guess is a reflection on the company's desire to keep pushing away from the solid, staid image they once had. No doubt, the company wants to do this and yet retain the respect they have justifiably earned for the highest standards of safety.

XC70

The XC70 will build on the success Volvo have had with the previous XC70 and more recently with the huge XC90 which was released in 2005.
