A Rare Alexandrite From Richard Krementz Gemstones

Back in the early 1980s during a buying trip to Brazil, Richard Krementz of Richard Krementz Gemstones picked up a 3 ct. stone he thought he might gift to his wife. The problem was: “Alexandrite was never one of her faves,” explains a spokesperson for Krementz. So in the safe it sat until recently, when the Krementz team and designer gun-for-hire Maria Canale decided to get the gem out of the vault and into someone’s permanent collection.

“The odd shape really threw us into a design conundrum for a good six months,” says the rep. “So many designs weren't working, but Maria Canale did this one. The diamonds are set in levels for modulation.”

The platinum piece is still for sale—but perhaps not for long. Within an hour of emailing an image of the ring to its database of clients, the company had received 45 inquiries.
