The Minar-e-Pakistan or “Pakistan Day Memorial” has been erected as a monument in commemoration of the Lahore Resolution in Iqbal Park. This is the site where in 1940 the Muslim League held its historic 34th annual session and passed the resolution of Pakistan (Qarardad-e-Pakistan,) demanded a separate homeland for Muslims. This was the first official declaration to establish a separate homeland for the Muslims living in the South Asia. Pakistan now celebrates this day as a national holiday each year.
In 1960 the Muslim League leaders impressed upon the local authorities the need for building a memorial. The governor of West Pakistan, Akhtar Hussain, issued an appeal to the public for contributions for constructing the memorial. He also constituted a memorial committee and a memorial fund for collecting donations from philanthropists. Murat Khan, a Turkish architect, designed the memorial. The governor laid the foundation stone of the memorial on March 23, 1960. The tower took about eight years to complete, at an estimated cost of Rs.500, 000.
The tower was designed by Naseer-ud-Deen Murat Khan a Pakistani architect. The design approved by the President was built by Mian Abdul Khaliq. The base of the tower is raised approximately 4m, from the ground. It rises up to approximately 13m, forming a sculpted, flower-like base. From this point it tapers as it rises. The base platform is shaped like a 5-point star and it encloses crescent shaped pools. The overall height of the monument is approximately 60m. It is constructed in re-in-forced concrete, all poured in-situ. The floors and walls are rendered in stone and marble.
The tower rises above a platform shaped like a five-pointed star. The terrace is three feet from ground level, the platform’s height is about six feet, and the star platform is about 12 feet high. It is surrounded by two crescent-shaped pools, four feet deep and lined with green and red marble. The tower has a spring shaped hall spanned by arches. On the marble slabs of the central shaft are inscribed a brief history of the Pakistan Resolution in English, Urdu and Bengali, the 99 names of God and poetic verses from Allama Iqbal.
Iqbal Park is a fantastic entertaining place. Every year on 14 August and 23, of March and on the other Pakistani national celebrations there held special programs on the Minar-e-Pakistan. In the normal days there are many peoples in the Iqbal Park. Pakistani peoples are very aggressive about there national day so they celebrate it with great passion every year.

Empress Noor Jahan lies buried in a tomb which is not far from that of her husband, Emperor Jahangir. Mehr-un-Nisa (1577-1645), titled Noor Jahan Begam means Light of the World, was the daughter of Khwaja Ghiyas-ud-din Muhammad Ghiyas Beg Taharani, a migrant from Persia, who had fled to Hindustan. She married Jahangir in the sixth year of his reign, and, because of her abilities, soon get authority at the Mughal court.

A great patron of architecture, poet and aesthete, she erected impressive edifices and gardens utilizing the enormous wealth at her disposal. She remained supremely powerful until the death of Jahangir and Ladli Begam also. Noor Jahan, along with her widowed daughter, lived in Lahore until her death in 1645, Shah Jahan having settled an annual allowance of two lakhs of rupees for her.
It was believed, in 19th century marbles and other costly decorative items were removed from the sepulcher during the Sikh rule and utilized them in the decoration of the Sikh temple at Amritsar. Even the chamber containing the graves of Noor Jahan and her daughter were desecrated. The original marble cenotaphs have disappeared. The existing cenotaphs and the marble platform are 20th century replacements.

In recent years, however, in an attempt to restore it, the monument has been made to look completely new, having lost the subtle traces of floral and geometric flourishes her so loved.
