Dayanand Kamakar Spending his early days in the streets of Chikodi, a small town in Karnataka, Dayanand Kamakar has grown up amid the colourful traditions of his region. The temples, prayers, sight of candles and diyas fascinated him. From the motifs and traditions of his town, he derived inspiration. Colours have an intriguing effect on him, and the warm notes in most of his works display his love for red, yellow and orange. A contemporary Indian artist, Dayanand has shown considerable promise over these years. In his recent works, one can see a depiction of our society. Though the themes of his works are from amidst us, they have been brought out very differently in the medium of art. The composition and use of colour is attractive and present a style of their own. The structured lines add to the meaning. Many of his paintings have drawn source and inspiration from folk themes and motifs. The textures mesmerize the viewer. Even though the paintings highlight women, the presentation is stylistic and compliments the theme and idea. |
