Is Being Cool Killing You? Part II.

Is Being Cool Killing You? Part II
I don't know how Keith Richards has stayed alive for so long. Maybe he secretly drinks wheat grass juice?
So maybe you've committed to a healthy lifestyle but how can you now really enjoybeing healthy?
  • Eat out with other healthy people. We are pack animals. Most human beings find pleasure in eating with other people. You could host a healthy potluck. Look to meet-up.com for a group of your liking. Another idea is to have a pajama party with your cooland healthy friends.
  • Look to inspiring healthy and cool celebrities such as teetotalers Henry Rollins and Bradley Cooper or vegan Erykah Badu or exercise enthusiasts like Cameron Diaz or LL Cool J.
  • Check out your local yoga studios, which often host healthy events like candlelight yoga at the end of the workweek or kirtans. Kirtan involves chanting hymns or mantras to the accompaniment of instruments.
Now the tricky part: How to politely decline offers for alcohol, unhealthy food etc.?
Saying "no thanks" should be enough but if its not you could be completely honest and say that you're not drinking because you just don’t. A seriously strong person who doesn’t care about offending anyone will just leave a party if seriously pushed. If you don’t have the chutzpah I have some advice for you. You could tell a white lie and say any of the following:  a) you are cleansing b) you have a lot to do in the morning c) you are allergic to alcohol. I would also recommend choosing an establishment that has a variety of healthy food or non-alcoholic drinks so you don’t have to make saying “no” an issue at all.
Last of all, if you still need motivation to become vice-free, think of it this way. I'm borrowing this concept from the work of Byron Katie, but who would you be without _____ insert your vice(s) here: Write that down and stick in your fridge, medicine cabinet or wherever needed.
